Harbert Magazine Fall 2022

DEAN'S LAST WORD

Preparing For Change With A Strong Foundation At Harbert, we’re always working hard to advance our mission of producing highly desired graduates who are ready to enter an increasingly complex and competitive workplace. As you’ve read elsewhere in this issue of Harbert Magazine, many bright minds are at work considering the challenges of the post-pandemic workplace and taking a fresh new look at the future of work. Although much has changed — and will continue to change — in the way people work, the fundamentals of sound management and preparation, coupled with a solid grounding in key principles and practices, will remain crucial to business education. At Harbert, we’re looking ahead while also realizing that the future will continue to require us to adapt to the ever-changing marketplace. Providing graduates with a solid foundation of business knowledge supplemented with practical experiences will enable our graduates to successfully adapt to and thrive in this changing environment. We’re proud of Harbert’s growth in enrollment and in reputation. It didn’t just happen. It took work, the hard work that is Auburn’s hallmark. That work continues, and it’s an honor to help lead that effort. This is an interesting and exciting time to serve the college as interim dean. I have great confidence in our talented team whose teaching and research pushes students to achieve their potential and expand their boundaries of knowledge. I also have tremendous confidence in the impressive students who come to Harbert eager to prepare themselves for the future and to embrace the challenges and opportunities that await them after graduation. I deeply appreciate the support of our alumni, who are generous not only with their financial resources, but also in sharing their time and experience. Alumni support and involvement are critical to helping us achieve our goal of providing a superior student experience. As we look to the future of work, we do so with eyes open to the challenges and minds open to potential solutions. At Harbert, we believe that’s the path to progress.
